How to use facebook safe online ?

Facebook is the largest social neworking platform on earth with more than 50million personalities. People use facebook to share their photos, videos, events, notes, connects with friends and family. Also facebook differ from twitter on it's strucure.

Enabling secure connection

Enabling a secure connection between your browser and server helps to prevent any sniffing of your data. In a secure connection (https), data will be encrypted and secured. You can set this function by going to account settings section. First go to your account settings and to security settings. There you'll see an option 'Secure Browsing. Enable and save it. Now you'll see you connection has been changed to 'https' from 'http'. In Google chrome, click on the green 'lock' picture and you'll see the connection info.

Enable limitations to see your personal information

You can limit people to view your personal information other than your friends. Enable this privacy settings.

Dont use same passwords for your fb and email accounts.

Most of the people uses same passwords for multiple accounts in different sites. This helps crackers to hack your accounts easily. So dont use same passwords. Use different passwords with numbers, signs etc to make your passwords.

Facebook apps is the new platform of crackers to hack fb. These apps are running with lot of vulnerabilites. Some apps contains virus on them which may post unwanted contents on your wall without any notification. So block every unwanted apps. There are also safe and official apps like twitter. Use them if you want. Also aware that facebook dont guarentee any third party apps and they'll not be responsible for what you do and get from apps, as their terms of service says.

Beware of phishing sites and link

Phishing sites may look like as the orginal site but not. They are used to hack your account. So always remember to check the address bar whether you are on the right place (90% people dont do this).When you enter your username and password on a phishing site, the information will be sent to a server as plain text instead of logging in. Fake login page and scripts can be downloaded by anyone from the web ! Also dont click on sharing or login links from any unknown websites. They may be a phishing links.

As facebook is a target of crackers, they give us extra security.
1.Use security questions
2.Use recovery email addresses.
3.Use phone numbers.
4.Takeout your data.
5.Enable notification for unknown activity
6.Enable ip address remembering function.
7. Report or block people you dont like (there is a large no. of fake accounts on fb)
8. Always to remember to sign out befor leaving public internet cafe.
9.Use everything for a limit.

You can also enable secure https connection in twitter. Go to settings > Account and enable the 'Always use https' option.
